Jen's Kitchen gets a little dirty

It felt so good to be back out doing Jen's Kitchen last Saturday.
I took a 10 week break for stress relief.
The volunteer I had was another sex worker I use to work the stroll with.
It was so cool to come together and help out our fellow sisters we knew.
We started walking the stroll to hand out sandwiches, when we came accross a lady I knew from my drug use days.
She was just laying on the ground lifeless,we thought we were dealing with an overdose then we heard little cries come from her.
Once we got her to sit up she told us she was high on Herion and started talking about her sexual abuse memories, trying to find out why this had happened to her.
We shared our experinces with physical & sexual abuse in & out of the sex trade.
She started to feel better once knowing that she wasn't the only women in thw world still trying to heal from her wounds of abuse.
Once she stood up we all realized she was laying in dog shit, she started to cry again,we calmed her down letting her know everything was going to be alright.
Then she wanted a hug,so I hugged her back feeling "OH God I better not get dog shit on me".
Turns out I didn't,thank GOD.
We walked her over to the Triage center and stayed with her for the next 2 hours as she had a shower, got high, got new clothes.
We dried her clothes out under a bathroom dryer & still managed to give out food to women inside this center.
Then finally she was done & emontionally stable to be on her way home.
Candice & I just looked at each other and said "Thank GOD that's over with".
You never know what you'll find when doing Jen's Kitchen.

This is a great story and example of the way ministry looks here in the Downtown Eastside. Getting down and dirty, spending time with people, helping them out and just being a friend is what most people need down here. I am encouraged by your willingness to help people amd to share love the way Jesus would have done it.
Thanks for sharing your story with the world!

Jen - you rock because you weren't to grossed out by dog poop to pull a sister outta the gutter. I'm not surprised at all. God bless you.
